O.k. hoping for lots of input from all you homeschool veterans out there.
I use primarily ABeka and am pretty happy with most of it. However, I really want to switch next year and use Math for sure and possibly language either in a dvd or computer format for my older two kids. They will be in 5th and 6th grade next year. I feel like I am not doing “enough” with those two subjects. The constant drilling and discipline are hard for me. I would feel better with them having a teacher explain it to them first!
A Beka offers a video option. The program is the same curriculum as what I am using, the only difference is that you get a classroom setting with a teacher presenting the daily lesson. Sounds good to me but the problem is there is two “bundles” you can purchase it in. So, I have to buy science, math, and history, OR language spelling reading and all of that. I don’t want to pay the additional cost for all the subjects to be taught on video. I just want math and possibly language.
Anyone know of any other curriculums out there that offer a video or computer type option available to purchase by single subjects?
THANK YOU FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE ME!!!!!

I have heard nothing but GREAT stuff about Teaching Textbooks (http://www.teachingtextbooks.com/) for math. Everyone I know who uses it LOVES it.
I have never heard of this one before! Thank you! It looks incredible. Exactly what I am looking for. It’s just for pc though! I may have to buy another computer just to use it, for crying out loud!!!!!!! Thank you!
Darcy, just met with our ES for South Sutter Charter School. I am a bit overwhelmed with our choices for RJ but I have a general idea of what might work well for him….thankfully I am only looking for one! Is there still interest in getting together as a group and discussing curriculum?
Rosetta Stone is great for Spanish..is on the computer. There isn’t a teacher instructing, but it is very visual. Love to Learn (and Rainbow Resource) have great prices for it, and it’s taking me awhile to get through the year I purchased so it can last a LONG time
.
Math wise, idk but if you find something let me know, I’d love to check that out!
Math U See! http://www.mathusee.com It’s a great video-based math program. I have several levels of it, if you’d like to take a look at it. They have an online diagnostic test, so you can place your child right where they need to be without worrying about learning gaps caused by switching curriculum.
As far as language goes, are you talking English or foreign language? I really like Reason For Spelling, and again, I have several levels, if you want to take a peek at them.
Sometimes you can find the curriculums online (ebay, half.com). Maybe you can find just the subjects you want there without having to buy the whole bundle. Also we have a homeschool new and used bookstore in town. Maybe you have one close by where you can find them individually as well. Good luck.
The one’s I use online are BrainPop, Time 4 Learning and Monarch which is new from Alpha & Omega Publishing.
My children are younger, but we liked Time4Learning.com for Math and Language Arts. I had planned to use it primarily as a supplement, but with 4 under 6, it turned into a great tool. I have heard good things about Switched On Schoolhouse from Alpha Omega. On the foreign language front, we completed Rosetta Stone Spanish Level 1 and my oldest LOVES it. I have heard amazing reviews of A Beka’s video option. Have you looked at Andrew Pudewa’s stuff, “Excellence in Writing”?
I stumbled across your blog and wanted to say hi.
Take a minute an check my blog out
I have lots of great giveaways going on.
Thanks

Hi,
I am going to try Teaching Textbooks next year for my sixth grader. I wish I had tried it this year! I’ve heard tremendously great things about this program. There is a textbook and DVD for the student to follow along with and then after the DVD lesson, they try it on their own, and go back to the DVD to correct their answers. From what I’ve heard, the teaching is thorough on the DVDs and it’s like having your own math tutor, in house!
