Today we had school on a Sunday. Beauty of homeschool…FLEXIBILITY! We finished up our week long unit study on pizza. It was a great break from the normal routine of school. We completed our first lap books, workbook on pizza, and made our own pizza complete with a Round Table Pizza box. We studied Galileo, Michelangelo, Venice, Gondolas, and Naples. It was awesome.
After we were done with those, we got ready for our open house. We had lots of books from the library about all the things we had been studying all week. The kids displayed their work, authentic Italian music played, and we had a snack spread of pizza and dessert pizza (sugar cookies with frosting for sauce, cut up licorice for cheese, and m n m’s for all other toppings).
I am trying to keep things as “normal” for the kids as possible to help with this transition year into homeschooling. Any time it is possible, I have been including some of their favorite things from school. Open house is always a fun time for them to show off their work. We invited several of our closest friends over to hang out for a couple hours and have our own low key open house. Some are homeschooled, some will be next year, and some go to public school. I have incredible friends. Here are most of the munchkins who came.
Look at these handsome young men…I wonder who they will become…
We are surrounded by amazing people in our lives. I am incredibly grateful for them. The icing on the cake?
Candied apples for the teacher….Thanks Tod and G.
Now there are just 74 school days left until summer.
