Curriculum.

I am using primarily A Beka curriculum? Why? I am familiar with it and a lot of Christian schools use it. I love the fact that its Christ centered. Book titles are things like God’s Gift of Language, Understanding God’s World, etc.

I was able to order the grade level in a kit. I just checked 3 boxes: 4th grade, 5th grade, and k-4. I have heard its not the cheapest. I honestly did not price it out. I paid $1500 for all three kids. For the most part, I have been really happy with everything. It is broken down in to 170 days. All the lesson plans are done for you. Simply read and follow. In theory, it is fool proof.
Being completely new, I decided to go with this familiar system. The kids have learned with A Beka for years now. I thought about looking around, but honestly didn’t even know what to look for. I used the energy and time into getting ready to teach, instead.

Glad you posted what you went with. I struggled before my daughter went to KG and then I figured,…there was NO way I could ever homeschool so – off to public school she went. Last year was great…this year, not so much. She was so stressed (her teacher was a complete nightmare) that she started pulling out her hair! Needless to say, pulling her out of school in the middle of the year wasn’t my ideal choice, but it had to be done before she went bald. I didn’t know where to start…I’m not a teacher – nor do I have patience to be one. A friend of the family was actually an administrator for Florida Virtual School (Connections Academy) and they happened to have open enrollment in Dec, so I jumped on board. It is free since it is considered “public school”. Would I have rathered done a faith based teaching – yes, but I had NO idea where to begin! This is working for us. I just have to incorporate our own bible study (which isn’t hard). I was amazed how far behind her class was to the books (that are suppose to the be same as what she had). We are cruising along and she is doing great! The best choice I ever made! I’m sure you feel the same way!
